Western Black Widow
The western black widow (Latrodectus hesperus) is best known for its distinctive red hourglass shape on its abdomen and its penchant for eating its mate. While they are considered the most venomous spider in North America, their bite is seldom fatal to humans. The 31 species of Latrodectus are spread through the temperate regions of the world, including the United States.
